No-one is eaxctly sure how and when sandboarding first began, altought there have been stories of the Brasilians inventing a baisic form of sandboarding in the 1940's and of people in the 1950's riding the hoods of cars down the dunes in California, USA.

Now days lovers of the sport have been reinventing and refining sandboarding as we know it. As more and more people each day are discovering what has been happening on the dunes for the past fifty or sixty years, and becoming interested in it themselves, the level of skill has increased dramatically.

Today sandboarding is know around the world, in some areas more than others. In South America there are a lot of places for sandboarding and today sandboards are made with the best materials (wood, plastics, aluminium, etc.)
